Origami Essential Math Skills Program 

A set of Common Core State Standard aligned lessons and activities designed to engage children ages 6+ in five essential math skills.

Each lesson focuses on one essential skill and includes a teacher’s guide and student worksheet, instructing learners to:

1) Fold an origami model

2) Apply it to a math-based activity

3) Engage critical thinking with rich discussion prompts

The goal of this program is to provide the core building blocks of learning mathematics through the art of origami -- a creative, accessible, and low-stress tool. Learners will be provided with a new outlook on math, showing that all parts of the brain can be used for mathematics practice. This curriculum is meant to be used as an extension or
lesson within a math unit.

Standards that are chosen are aligned with 1st and 2nd grade CCSS, but can be used for grades K-4. These lessons can be done in various settings including but not limited to:

  • Whole-group classroom instruction

  • Small-group instruction

  • At-home learning

  • After-school activities.
